Topics like "women empowerment" or "women power" have never really inspired me to write. I am always stuck with the questions, are we really oppressed that brings in the word "empowerment" ? Or are women actually marginalized ? But all these notions of mine were quickly altered as I was social networking.
Few days back I got to watch the recent Deepika Padukone's video titled "my choice". I was pretty impressed as the video brought in some rarely discussed issues like "adultery". As soon as this video got record breaking views, what I found as I was scrolling down my Facebook account, was another video completely disrespecting what the former video spoke. I was in a shock when I saw a friend of mine sharing this nonsensical stuff out of sheer ignorance. Well, this was the point when I realized how unaware i was about such high level male chauvinism existing even today in the society. Is it out of insecurity or did it completely wounded the "pious" male ego ? Just one video of a woman saying my choice created aggression among all men to take revenge for revenge. This kind of insecurity " how come women are trying to dominate men in a patriarchal society" is deeply entrenched in their minds. And hence, these notions have to be uprooted.
I am writing this, as my conscience didn't let me ignore what I felt was wrong. Hence, no offences against anyone in particular.
